AgileOne Sponsors HRO Today Flash Report: The Importance of Contingent Workforce and Employer Branding

TORRANCE, CA, January 22, 2019 — AgileOne, a total talent management leader, is proud to announce the release of a joint report with HRO Today titled “The Importance of Contingent Workforce and Employer Branding” released on January 22, 2019.

In the face of skills gaps, regulations, and demographic shifts, organizations are increasingly relying on contingent workers for their success. Given that nearly three-quarters of survey respondents believe contingent workers are an important part of their employment mix, this survey takes a closer look at how companies are leveraging their employment brand to attract and retain this valuable asset.

In the flash report, “The Importance of Contingent Workforce and Employer Branding,” HRO Today examined the individual's evolving expectations and the accelerated pace at which technology is shaping organizations’ human capital priorities. “As companies strive to adapt to rapidly shifting demographic, technological, and social trends, business leaders are looking for new ways to engage workers. This research shines a spotlight on the use of the employer brand to reach contingent workers and helps to differentiate between those that are ahead – and behind – the curve,” said Jay Stoelting, AgileOne Vice President, Business Development. “This report is a wake-up call for organizations to expand how they view these critical workers and the tools they use to engage the best and brightest talent possible.”

Here are some key takeaways from the report:

  • 71 percent of respondents surveyed felt contingent workers were an important part of their employment mix.
  • Respondents viewed their employment brand as significantly more important when attracting full-time employees vs. contingent workers.
  • 33 percent of respondents do not measure the effectiveness of their engagement efforts.
  • Just 37 percent use contingent worker satisfaction surveys to measure the effectiveness of engagement efforts.
  • 56 percent consider contingent workers an important or very important source of talent for their full-time workforce.

In addition to using their employment brand to attract and engage with contingent workers, organizations need to rethink how they measure the impact of their efforts. A majority of respondents (67 percent) monitor social proof sites like Glassdoor to measure the effectiveness of their contingent engagement efforts. Over one-half calculate engagement using the same hiring metrics utilized for full-time employees.

While the results of this survey shine a light on the role, a company’s employment brand plays in the engagement of contingent workers, engaging the right tools and partners is critical. “We are spending a large percentage of our time and resources focusing on the most advanced technology and solution strategies that will bring about the greatest results for our customers,” said Stacie Habegger, AgileOne Chief Sales Officer, “Now, more than ever, qualified candidates have choices about where they work, and what makes a company attractive goes far beyond salary and benefits in this competitive market.”

Study Methodology

Subscribers of HRO Today Global Magazine and HRO Today newsletters were invited to take part in an online study on behalf of HRO Today. Study respondents were manager level or above within their Human Resource departments. Respondents were from the North America region. Because of the size and diversity of the region and small sample size, these results should be viewed as directional. Respondents were screened to ensure that they use contingent workers on an ongoing basis in their organizations. The average number of contingent workers being used per survey respondent was 2,340, ranging from less than 500 to more than 10,000. Respondents were not aware of AgileOne’s sponsorship of this study.

HRO Today Flash Reports are a series of ongoing research initiatives that address today’s topics of interest in the HR community. HRO Today Flash Reports are focused briefs that can be used to support business decisions and further discussion among industry practitioners and thought leaders. The markets served are North America, EMEA, and APAC.
